Southern Nevada System of Care and Consilience Group’s ‘No Wrong Door’ Model: Solving the Puzzle
Imagine trying to solve a puzzle where each piece is hidden in a different room, and every time you need help, you’re sent to yet another room with no clear direction. This is often the experience of people navigating complex social services systems, especially for those experiencing homelessness. In response, the City of Las Vegas and Consilience Group are working together to simplify this process by convening stakeholders to design the Southern Nevada System of Care (SoC) initiative.
The idea behind the system of care approach is simple: rather than sending someone from one service to another—whether it’s healthcare, housing, or financial assistance—people will be met with a single, coordinated system. So, instead of being told, “you’re in the wrong place,” they’ll get help no matter which door they walk through. For example, if someone needs housing support but first goes to a health clinic, that clinic will guide them to the right resources without making them start all over again. Consilience Group believes in designing a person-centered model that removes the barriers associated with system-centered services.
This integrated system benefits individuals by reducing confusion and eliminating the frustration of navigating disconnected services, making it easier to access what they need. For community organizations, it means less duplication of efforts and more effective use of resources.
The result? Improved health outcomes, better access to essential services, and a stronger, more resilient community.
Through the Southern Nevada System of Care initiative, the City of Las Vegas with support and guidance from our Consilience Group team, is taking steps to ensure that health and social services work together. Together we are helping people overcome barriers like poverty, housing instability, and lack of healthcare access. This collaborative effort doesn’t just simplify service delivery—it transforms lives by focusing on the whole person. Ensuring they receive the comprehensive support they need, wherever they begin their journey.
